Running a Small Business

Any small business owner will tell you that starting and running your own business is no easy task. During the startup stage, business owners end up wearing many hats (marketing, accounting, web design, sales, customer service, etc.) due to lack of resources, money, time or all of the above. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed trying to do it all yourself, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

According to a recent eVoice SMB Survey, 90% of small business owners fulfill 3 or more roles regularly, with 44% of small business owners fulfilling at least 5 different employee roles. Some of the most challenging aspects of balancing a small business are juggling multiple roles, not enough time to get things done and trouble making a profit.

Fortunately, the small business owner has help. These days there is little that an entrepreneur can’t learn from a search engine query, article, video, ebook or blog post. The web is a nearly infinite resource of information, recommendations and tips—and with the right combination of automation tools, helpful advice and plenty of elbow grease, any entrepreneur can turn a fledgling startup into a successful small business.

Small Business Marketing Infographics

An infographic is defined as a “graphic visual representation of information, data or knowledge intended to present complex information quickly and clearly.” (Wikipedia)

Infographics are a great way to convey information that might be hard to understand, less interesting, or difficult to explain with words. What else are infographics great for? Getting links back to your website (yay, SEO!) and driving likes, comments and shares on social media. So whether you are seeking to grow your own knowledge, or grow your traffic and social reach numbers, look to the humble infographic.

Below you’ll find a collection of the small business infographics we’ve created and featured on the Webs Blog that we hope you’ll helpful for your small business marketing efforts.

Branding for Small Businesses

What’s in a name? A lot of things…But your small business’ brand is not one of them. Your brand is not your name, or your product, or even your logo. It’s a common misconception that a small business logo or identity package is its brand. But small business branding is about much more than that.

The difference between a name and a brand is that a name doesn’t have associations; it is simply a name. A name becomes a brand when people link it to other things.”Timothy Calkins, Marketing Professor at Northwestern University.

Your brand is a great example of something that is greater than the sum of its parts. It can be thought of as the result of all the values and images that people associate with your company. It is made up of your name, your small business logo, the tone of your marketing copy, your small business website – everything that comes together to tell the world who you are, what you are about, and how stand apart from your competitors.
